This episode continues the focus on God's lovingkindness that leads to repentance. A balanced preaching of the gospel always includes the demand to repent. Coupled with the convicting work of the Spirit, godly sorrow leads to repentance without regret. (2 Corinthians 7:10) The Holy Spirit also leads people to repent by imparting on the soul a sense of God's unmerited kindnesses. The evangelist ideally follows the Holy Spirit's leading in "wounding the conscience" (Acts 2:38), while bringing out the gracious character of God in His care of us when we deserve the opposite. The episode concludes with an exhortation to be living epistles of God's lovingkindness. The evangelist himself/herself should be the embodiment of the grace extended to all. So just as God is "kind to ungrateful and evil people," so the evangelist should be gracious to ALL, ready to bless.
Both Godly Sorrow and His Many Kindnesses Lead to Repentance
This episode mostly focuses on the kindnesses of God that lead to repentance. The last program emphasized cooperation with the convicting Holy Spirit, as He works godly sorrow leading to repentance without regret. The temptation for some evangelists (and churches) is interrupting or sidestepping the Holy Spirit's work of conviction, resulting in shallow repentance without genuine sorrow. The result at best, is a shallow repentance with regret. The evangelist instead needs to cooperate with the Holy Spirit's "sorrowful" work, while at the same time bringing to mind His more "positive" gracious works. "The kindnesses of God lead you to repentance." (Romans 2:4) Many unbelievers have experienced kindnesses of God that smack of divine intervention: miraculous survival from normally "fatal" accidents, instantaneous answers to prayer, and rescue from dire circumstances. God can't help Himself, for "He is kind to ungrateful and evil people." (Luke 6:35) The evangelist can then hopefully elicit acknowledgment of God's kindnesses while articulating God's call to repent. Godly sorrow coupled with God's kindnesses, embodied in the cross, are the means of repentance.
Christian Nationalism: when Kingdom Mixing Leads to Kingdom Purging
This episode finishes addressing dominion theology in the New Apostolic Reformation and cites the Biblical evidence for the resulting corruption of the Church. The Church's mandate is primarily that of making disciples, not controlling government. Christian nationalism convolutes the mission of the Church, eventually leading to corruption of the Church, as worldly power dynamics take hold of the Church as it struggles to exert control over government. Demonic forces know they can't prevail against the Church (Matthew 16:18), so they instead infiltrate it, as many of Christ's parables acknowledge. "Birds" are representative of demonic activity in the parable of the sower, the story that unlocks ALL the parables. (Mark 4:13) The parable of the mustard seed predicts the eventual pervasive presence of the Kingdom, which nevertheless becomes the nesting place of demonic powers and those under their influence. When Christ returns, "all stumbling blocks" will be removed: sons of darkness "nesting" in the Kingdom will be thrown into Hell. The angels "will gather OUT OF HIS KINGDOM all stumbling blocks and those who commit lawlessness, and will throw them into the furnace of fire.." (Mathew 13:41-42) Christian nationalism, the convolution of the kingdoms of this World with the Kingdom of Christ, promotes the lie that kingdom of America IS the kingdom of Christ. And, it will likely lead to massive angelic purging of KINGDOM impostors, in which Christ will say, "I never knew you, depart from, you who practice lawlessness." (Matthew 7:22)
“Lord, Show Us the Way!”
This episode addresses the means by which God would establish the psalmist's ways to keep His statutes. (5-6) These verses capture the goal of the entire psalm. On the road to receiving God's assistance, the psalmist acknowledges his faulty ways and repents: "I consider my ways and turn my feet to your testimonies." (59) This statement indicates repentance and directs the psalmist's to God's testimonies. Throughout Psalm 119 eight expressions of God's way (way, law, precepts, ordinances, commandments, testimonies, word, statutes) become the central focus of the psalmist. The more the psalmist reflects on God's testimonies, statutes, etc., the more the way of God is established in his life. In like manner, NT believers are called to consider God's testimonies, i.e., His kindnesses, and the reflection leads to repentance. (Rom. 2:4) The more we reflect on all the spiritual blessings we have in Christ, the Son Himself Who is the Way, becomes our way of life. God establishes our way as we abide in the Way.
God’s Kindnesses: Motivation to Repent
This episode unpacks Romans 2:4, where the kindnesses of God lead us to repentance. Reflection on the Lord's many kindnesses helps resolve the dilemma of many who're stuck in confession without repentance. Constant repentance, or turning to the Lord, is absolutely essential if anyone of us would make progress towards the beatific vision. Without it, veils and blockages obstruct our vision of the glory of God and transformation stalls. Part of the solution to unwillingness to repent is reflection on God's many kindnesses. We are called to reflect on God's bountiful gifts in Christ, how God canceled our ridiculous debt to Him. We reflect on the Holy Spirit's persistent shaping us into the image of Christ, even when we stubbornly resist Him. And how many times, has God intervened and delivered us out of dire circumstances that we ourselves created? God's many kindnesses, when deeply pondered, often lead to reconsideration of our stubborn rebellion, leading to repentance.
Stuck in Confession without Repentance?
This episode spells out the challenge of making progress in sanctification when one is unwilling to repent. Based on previous episodes, the uncovering of the glory of Christ is the means of transformation, but a veil to this glory often descends when we don't turn to the Lord, i.e., repent. So what do you do when the principal avenue of transformation, beholding the glory of the Lord, is cut off because you're obstinately on the wrong road and unwilling to make a U-turn? You simply don't want to repent. Navel-gazing and fixing yourself is not the answer, turning to the Lord WHERE YOU CAN is the solution. Romans 2:4 states that the kindness of the Lord leads to repentance. Believers stuck in confession without repentance are encouraged to reflect on God's abundant kindnesses. This mediation on God's work, echoing "I believe, help my unbelief," engenders honest confession and partial repentance, leading to more openness to making an about-face and embracing the straights paths of the Lord. The veil lifts more and more, we see our rebellion in light of God's glory, and we fully repent from the heart.
The Word reveals, we choose LIfe or Death
The Word of God reveals carnality and exposes the believer to sinfulness in both intention and action (Heb 4:12). This episode presents the either/or option that all of have when the Word of God exposes carnality in our lives. We can either receive the Lord's correction, repent, and grow closer in our relationship with the Lord, or we ignore his voice and harden our hearts. If we choose the latter, we should read the Scripture anyway, knowing that a revelation of God's gracious character can lead us to repentance (Romans 2:4)
